About this project

We are defining the typical responsibilities and required skills for the role of 'agile coach' in the Government Digital and Data profession.

This new description will help bring in and retain people who can support the development of agile culture across organisations. It will provide a clear progression pathway and cultivate the expertise necessary for continuous improvement and collaboration across delivery teams.

Co-writing sessions

June to July 2026

The sessions were facilitated by a senior content designer from the Capability Framework team, starting from a first draft submitted by the proposers.

Together we agreed:

  • a general role description
  • 2 descriptions for levels for 'senior' and 'lead' agile coach
  • which existing skills the role would require, particularly those shared with delivery manager and programme delivery manager
  • a new skill description to be required by agile coach

1 May 2026

Scoped and scheduled the co-writing work needed to produce the new description, based on a first draft submitted by the proposers using a template.

20 March 2026

The proposers met with the Capability Framework to team to understand the process and timeline for producing the role description.

The proposal was approved.

Proposers from the Ministry of Justice, Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue & Customs presented the case for a new role description of 'agile coach'.
