Role descriptions

Download the content for every role and role level in the framework.

The content is formatted in a table with columns for:

• role family - the wider group that each role is part of
• role - the names of the digital and data roles
• role description - the short descriptions and typical responsibilities for each role in general
• role level - the names of role levels that each role has
• role level description - the short descriptions and typical responsibilities for each role level
• skill name - the names of skills required by each role
• skill description - the short descriptions of what each skill involves
• skill level - one of ‘awareness’, ‘working’, ‘practitioner’ or ‘expert’
• skill level description - what you are able to do with the skills if you have that level of proficiency
• role type - whether the role uses the skills for Senior Civil Service roles

You can find content for specific roles or roles levels by filtering these columns.

Job grades are not currently included as specific role levels are not required to be performed at specific grades. Learn about Civil Service job grades in this framework.

Skill descriptions

Download the content for every skill described in the framework Skills A to Z.

The content is formatted in a table with columns for:

• skill name - the unique name for each skill in the framework
• skill description - a short summary of what the skill involves doing
• awareness - the description of what someone with awareness-level proficiency
• working - the description of what someone with working-level proficiency in the skill can do
• practitioner - the description of what someone with practitioner-level proficiency in the skill can do
• expert - the description of what someone with expert-level proficiency in the skill can do
• roles that require skill - list of roles that require this skill for at least one of its role levels

• timestamp - the date of the change note
• page - the page that the change note relates to and is displayed on, for example the name of the role page
